Spies` children to choose where to stay
The children of the ten convicted Russian spies deported from the United States, will choose whether to stay in the United States or rejoin their parents in Russia, U.S. media reported on Monday.
"The children have all been repatriated. We did so consistent with what their parents` wishes were," Fox News cited U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder as saying.
Holder said those who had reached legal age were given the option of deciding to stay or leave the United States.
Earlier, the United States said it would not create obstacles for the return of the children to their parents in Russia.
The 17-year-old son of one of the spies, journalist with dual U.S.-Peruvian citizenship, Vicky Pelaez, and Mikhail Vasenkov, who had been known as Juan Lazaro from Uruguay, is expected to stay in the United States with his 38-year-old half-brother, Pelaez`s son from a previous marriage.
Mikhail Kutsik and Natalia Pereverzeva, who were known as Michael Zottoli and Patricia Mills, began soon after their arrest to make arrangements for their two children, aged 1 and 3, to go to Russia.
It is not clear what will happen to the other four children, the 7- and 11-year-old daughters of Vladimir and Lydia Guryev (Richard and Cynthia Murphy) and the 16- and 20-year-old sons of Andrei Bezrukov and Yelena Vavilova (Donald Heathfield and Tracey Foley).
Ten people were arrested by U.S. law enforcement on June 27 on suspicion of being part of an espionage ring spying for Russia. An 11th suspect was detained on June 29 in Cyprus, but reports next day said police on the island were looking for him after he apparently skipped bail.
